In addition, entries will be judged based on criteria specific to our three categories of nomination as outlined below.

 

 

1. Diverse Mobility Options

This category will recognize innovative initiatives that provide and enhance mobility options for all community residents. One of the attributes of such a community is that individuals, regardless of functional abilities, can use a variety of transportation modes to get where they want and need to go: shopping, to the doctor’s office, or to visit family and friends.

Nominations for this category should address one or more of these components:

A. Public transportation, including transit, para-transit, rural transportation, rideshare, vans dedicated to older adults, or other options for alternative mode of transportation

B. Walkability, bicycle components, or outlets for alternative modes of transportation and healthy living

C. Travel environment, including pedestrian safety and driver safety

 

2. Opportunities for Housing 

This category recognizes innovative initiatives that provide affordable housing opportunities and other options for housing, and enhance homeowners’ abilities to age in place. These housing attributes of a livable community are designed to enhance the ability of residents with diverse needs to remain independent and actively engaged in community life.

Nominations for this category should address one or more of these components: 

A. Housing options (Accessory dwelling units; congregate housing; assisted living; CCRCs; shared housing; etc) 

B. Affordable housing 

C. Home design (new, upgrades and renovation)

 

3. Access to Support Services 

This category will recognize innovative initiatives that have been implemented and provide supportive services to ensure that residents of all ages and abilities can live in the community. These supportive services are attributes of a livable community designed to enhance the ability of residents with diverse needs to remain independent and actively engaged in community life.

Nominations for this category should address one or more of these components: 

A. Home and Community Based Supports (in home services, Meals on Wheels; friendly visitors, technology - i.e. broadband) 

B. Lifelong Learning (community/senior center/educational institutions for lifelong learning and shared use)
